Tinny meets David Lammy MP and British Ghanaian communities
On Friday, 27th November, 2009 Rt Hon David Lammy, MP for Tottenham and Minister of State for Higher Education and Intellectual Property and Tinny, visited the Bruce Grove Youth Centre, a £3million state of the art building which attracts local young people in the 13-17 year age group from Bruce Grove and across Tottenham and Haringey.
Tinny performed with the young people attending the youth centre, toured the facility and spoke to staff and volunteers about Ghana and Fairtrade. Many of the young people had recently taken part in a series of Fairtrade workshops and were keen to hear Tinny’s perspective on the impact of Fairtrade upon Ghana’s cocoa farming communities.

This was followed on Sunday 29th by Tinny’s performance in the ‘The Sunday Show’, alongside well-known British Ghanaian hip-hop artist Sway. Cadbury arranged for members of Ghana Union Youth to attend the event and meet with Tinny.
On Monday 30th November, Tinny spoke to year 5&6 pupils at Langley Manor School, with Ali Law from the Cadbury Corporate Responsibility Team and Joanna Brightwell from the Fairtrade Foundation. The students had been learning about Cadbury and Fairtrade and had a range of interesting questions to put to Tinny, Ali and Joanna.
That evening Tinny attended the New Horizons community centre in Mitcham and took part in an open Q&A with a group of 1st, 2nd & 3rd generation British Ghanaians. The attendees asked Tinny about every aspect of his life, from his musical career, to his opinions of the UK and his involvement with Faitrade and cocoa farming. He finished the event with a performance of the Zingolo single.
Yakoba Debrah, organiser of the event said ““It’s very important for second generation Ghanaians to connect with Ghanaian culture and music and with Ghanaian role models. It was a great inspiration for the young people to meet a star like Tinny who has not only experienced great success in his musical career, but also invests his time in principles he believes in such as Fairtrade.”

Cadbury Ghana shows Fairtrade Dairy Milk Music Video in Osiem and Adjeikrom
On Saturday 17th October Cadbury Ghana held two separate events in the cocoa farming communities of Osiem and Adjeikrom to show the “Zingolo” music video starring Ghanaian Hip Life star Tinny. Everyone was in high spirits as Ghana had won the under 20’s football world cup the previous evening and there were cheers and applause as people spotted the familiar faces of their neighbours amongst the dancers in the video, filmed in Ghana in August this year.
The following day Cadbury Ghana returned to the village to talk to people about what they had seen. One villager said:
“Cocoa is our livelihood. We saw our fathers cultivating it when we were young and we have continued the tradition. We saw the Cadbury film last night. I enjoyed the dancing the most.”
Another said:
“We are very happy that Cadbury is showcasing us to the world. We hope this friendship will last for a very long time”.
Cadbury Ghana shows Fairtrade Dairy Milk Music Video in Accra
A meeting of the Cadbury’s Cocoa Partnership Board took place in Accra, Ghana on Friday 9th October at Cadbury's Ghana headquarters, attended by senior representatives of two Ministries, four NGOs, leading farmers' trade union and the University of Ghana, as well as farmer leaders. The purpose of the event was to support the development of sustainable cocoa farming practices in Ghana and it was a perfect opportunity to show the new Zingolo music video starring Tinny as it will of course support education projects in Ghana's Cocoa growing areas.
James Boateng Managing Director of Cadbury in Ghana said "People's immediate reaction to the video was of applause and excitement and the general feedback was that the video appealed to everyone. Everyone was clamouring to take home a copy of the video after the event, so I think that shows how popular it was! We are very happy to have received such a positive reaction to this video which showcases Ghana's talented performers."
