Fat

These days people are concerned about fat in their diet

If you think about a glass of milk, most people would agree that it is a wholesome and well known ingredient. Well, milk just so happens to be one of a multitude of ingredients that also contain fat.

Fat is an essential part of a balanced diet, is a good source of energy and is something that in moderation is fine.

Many of our products get their great taste from things like milk, sugar and fats like cocoa butter. In fact without some fat, chocolate would not be chocolate at all. People know this and have told us that they understand our products for what they are - treats that add a touch of enjoyment in the diet.

We help people by offering clear labels about the ingredients and Guidelines Daily Amounts (GDAs) and are working to reduce the level of trans fat in our products to less that 0.5g per serving. We are also exploring the use of non-fat alternatives for our new and existing products, but already a big part of our portfolio in mints, gums and beverages has no fat at all.

For more information read about discretionary calories at MyPyramid.gov.

Do you have trans fats in your products?

Trans fats can be found in our products and they come from two sources. Some are naturally occurring and can be found in milk, butter and natural oils and fats, others are added as part of the production process. Although scientific opinion differs, we recognise that there is a consensus emerging that high levels of consumption of trans fats could be a health concern. Consequently, whilst it is not possible to reduce the levels of naturally occurring trans fats, we are working to reduce the level of total trans fats in our products to less than 0.5g per single serving worldwide.

Our UK business was one of the first to remove industrially produced trans fatty acids from our products. Today, all Cadbury products manufactured for the UK and Ireland are free of hydrogenated vegetable oil.
